Generation Y Fashion? — LV S/S 2010
The Louis Vuitton S/S 2010 collection (at Paris Fashion Week) was made up of an unusual, eclectic selection of looks and styles. Said Marc Jacobs: “[The collection is] about travelers — the movement that came after punk. Then we were thinking about hiking, trekking, and then denim and parkas, city utilitarianism.”

And indeed, the collection showcased bohemian, free-spirited travelers in all their glory. The models wore giant Afro wigs in varying colors adorned with bows. An astonishing array of hip trends were spotted on the runway, including sporty couture, military jackets, metallics, glitter, pleated plaid kilts, camouflage dresses, LV stamped denims, preppy outfits, boho chic, embellished clothing and tons more!
This kaleidoscope of trends was brought together to create an amalgamation of stylishly hip fashion perfect for Generation Y (hear hear!). Each look was created carefully through what seemed to be (deceivingly, I’m sure) random layering that showcased the free spirited travelers that inspired this collection. The show was streamed live online for the Social Networking Generation.

Trendy accessorizing and Japanese style layering added more fun to the show. Backpacks and bags had tassels and fur tails hanging off them. Feathered clogs adorned the models’ feet. All in all the show mixed together an eclectic selection of trends, colors and prints to create a fun and exciting layered look. A look that definitely created a statement through its unique bohemian slant.

I loved the fun vibe created by Marc Jacobs. Plus most of these styles are inherently wearable off the runway. However, this “fun” image does not really match my own personal view of Louis Vuitton. What do you think of when this brand comes to mind? I generally think of sophistication, tradition and elegance and naturally of that classic LV-monogrammed trunk and matching bag. It almost seems like this kind of hip, young and bohemian look is too much of a departure from their standard look. Then again, maybe it is about time for a change. What do you think?
